YOGA PRANAYAMA - JOHN SELLINGER
I have been involved in yoga since early childhood, having practiced first under the guidance of my parents. While travelling the world continuously with my family from the age of one, yoga meditation and philosophy became a unifying force for us. In my late teens, I began serious and regular practice of meditation, which had a great impact on my life as a student in the medical field.
From 2010 until recently, I lived in Rishikesh, India, in the ashram of my family’s spiritual guide, Swami Veda Bharati. During this time, I had the privilege of practicing under the guidance of many renowned teachers, with a focus on meditation and silence. I began teaching early on in India and continue to share practices and philosophy of the Himalayan Tradition with students in many countries.
I serve as an editor in Himalayan Yoga Publications Trust, which publishes books on yoga meditation, philosophy and silence.
I live with my wife and baby son and spend much time with family in both Switzerland and Australia.
Formal Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nuclear Medicine (BMEDRAD NuclMed). Yoga Alliance E-RYT-500; YACEP.
YOGA NIDRA - DR. STEPHEN ANTHONY PARKER
This program will review foundational practices and elementary philosophy covered at the previous workshop (Introduction to Yoga Nidra) in 2019 which is intended introduce and prepare participants for the practice of yoga nidra as taught within the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga Meditation.
The workshop will then continue with further discussion on the essential principles of Yoga Nidra and key points of the progression of its practice. Students will also be guided in further yoga nidra practices.
The workshop is recommended for participants who have a strong foundation in the basics of yoga and who have established a regular persona practice.
Foundations of Pranayama and Yoga Meditation
This workshop offers an introduction to the traditional approach of working with the breath as given in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras as well as foundational training in yoga meditation. Participants will refine the subtleties of the breath with a focus on Dirgha Sukshma which, with practice, will lead to the state of meditation (Dhyana) and ultimately towards Samadhi.
Breathing practices will progress from a basis of diaphragmatic breath training to the practice of Nadi Shodhanam, Kapalabhati and Bhastrika. Participants will learn theory, philosophy and correct practice of these pranayamas.
Training in foundations of yoga meditation will include correct comfortable sitting posture, breath for meditation and training in how to apply Dharana, the one-pointed flow of mind.
Participants with all levels of experience and welcome to join. Before the class begins, please let the teacher know of any physical disabilities, illnesses or other concerns such as pregnancy.
Ashtanga Yoga from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
In this two-day workshop, participants will learn the foundational principles and practices of the system of Ashtanga Yoga (the yoga of eight limbs) as presented in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. This ancient and profound science of self-transformation addresses the human personality in all of its aspects of body, breath-and-prana as well as mind-and-emotions.
This workshop will introduce elementary philosophy of Ashtanga Yoga as well as essential practices of this system including physical practices, breathing practices and meditation. Also, the essential practices of yamas and niyamas (clarifying the dynamics of emotions and relationships) will be addressed as an essential aspect of this practical and integrated approach to self-transformation.
Participants with all levels of experience and welcome to join. Before the class begins, please let the teacher know of any physical disabilities, illnesses or other concerns such as pregnancy.
